Phil Hellmuth Not Among Dancing with the Stars Cast

Poker brat Phil Hellmuth is not among the celebrity contestants vying for the mirrorball trophy on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars and we at Sports Interaction are gonna just go ahead and say it: ABC made a big mistake. Hellmuth is all sorts of drama. He has a Charlie Sheen ego and would have given the judges lots of lip, which would have made for some great TV.

Alas, however, the cast is a bit of a snooze fest. On Monday, it was announced that former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio, former Fat Actress star Kirstie Alley, NFL player Hines Ward, WWE star Chris Jericho, talk show diva Wendy Williams, Loveline host “Psycho” Mike Catherwood, Hefner’s former flame Kendra Wilkinson, former boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and Disney Star Chelsea Kane would all be appearing on the reality dancing show.

The rumor that Hellmuth would appear on the show started back in December by Hellmuth himself, who tweeted, ”OMG! Phil Hellmuth (me!) on ‘Dancing With the Stars!’ Outrageous! Might make a fool of myself on Worldwide Television one more time…”

His tweet sent the poker blogs (including ours) into a tailspin of speculation, with most of them wondering if ABC would really be taking on Hellmuth, or if it was just one of his stunts to get a little press. Well, it turned out to be the latter, or if you take what Hellmuth has recently been saying at face value, just a missed opportunity.

One of his recent tweets stated, “In January I had my hopes up high For being on Dancing WT Stars, but alas, it didn’t happen…Flying to Vegas now for NBC Heads Up.”

Apart from his total disregard for the grammatical rules of capitalization, Hellmuth seems to be on the level. It seems likely that there was some kind of initial audition process which he was invited to and ultimately booted from. Just another bust for the Poker Brat it seems. Hopefully he gave the casting directors a taste of what it sounds like when you knock him out.

Presumably his retort went something like this: “Can you believe I go out like this? I can’t catch a break this whole audition. Did you see that guy’s fox trot? His legs were all over the place. What an amateur. I can’t believe I’m going home like this. F$%# this competition. People here have no idea how to dance.”

A tough break for Phil. Maybe he should just stick to poker in the future. In fact, if you’re reading this Phil (because I’m sure you read us religiously), you should check out our Irish Open satellites. Satellites run daily with the last one happening on March 27 so you’ll want to take your shot at the $7,000 prize packages while you can.
