Poker Babes Fail to Win

When poker babe Abbey Daniels made it to the final table of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown, poker forums were agog with the speculation that she could become the first woman to win a ‘real’ WPT title. Van Nguyen had won the WPT Celebrity Invitational in 2008, but that was an invitational event and not an open one and therefore not real. Much has been made of Natalie Nikitina winning the WPT Paris Regional Event earlier this year. But now the regional event does not qualify as a real WPT title.

When the final table was set Abbey was in third place with 2,192,000 chips. She was a long way behind the leader Taylor Von Kriegenbergh and marginally behind Justin Zaki. Professionally Abbey had a poor bio data to show. She had three cashes and a total live tournament earning of less than $20,000. Very little was known about her personal life. Most poker player profiles carry no information about Abbey and surprisingly no photographs as well. What is known is that she is from Coral Springs Florida. She is 55 and a ‘band mom’. All the hype proved to be much ado about nothing for this poker babe. She had to settle for fourth place. The only good thing to come from this was the prize money of $286,819. Has Abbey had her 15 seconds of fame or will she bounce back?

Ironically another poker babe failed to make the grade today. This was at the EPT San Remo on the other side of the ocean. When Xuan Liu (in picture) final tabled the event, the hype was whether a poker babe will win the EPT San Remo back to back. Liv Boeree won this event last year and has not looked back. Xuan is a more known poker babe than Abbey, though many poker fans are bound to ask Xuan who? She had six cashes with one win and total live tournament earnings just under $80,000. Xuan was born in China and lives in Toronto. She is represented by Poker Royalty and that speaks volumes about her potential. In the EPT San Remo this poker babe was eliminated in third place but took home €360,000.
