Poker Robbery Fail at Stratosphere Casino
It is becoming a trend that is all too familiar: Guy approaches poker table. Guy tries to grab loot. Guy fails miserably.
This scenario played out again, after the son of a Las Vegas judge was caught back in February for trying to peddle the 1.5 million in poker chips he’d stolen from the Bellagio casino, this time, another attempt at robbing a Vegas casino went down this past Tuesday night at the Stratosphere casino.
With the Stratosphere not getting too much Vegas press lately, they are probably pretty pleased with the turn of events, when the would-be robber wound up with nothing, though he’s still on the loose.
Lt. Ray Steiber told the Las Vegas Sun the bandit entered the casino’s poker area, jumped over a change counter to find cash and fled “when he realized there wasn’t anything to take.”
The man, who unlike the Bellagio bandit donned a hooded sweatshirt rather than a motorcycle helmet, approached the poker room holding a gun and jumped the cashier counter demanding money or poker chips. When neither were available, he fled.
Luckily, this robber wasn’t the violent type. When he realized he’d be leaving empty-handed, there were no shots fired and no injuries reported. The man got away but has been described by police as being in his early 20s and about 5 feet 10 inches tall.
This makes for the third casino robbery in the last four months. Aside from the robbery at the Bellagio, two men were arrested as accomplices in a casino chip robbery at the Rio in February.
