Ryan Lenaghan Big WSOP Chip Leader Heading into Day 7
Looking like he just stepped out of a Vermont cabin in the woods, Ryan Lenaghan is currently the massive chip leader in the WSOP Main Event, holding a staggering 2,885,000 more than his closest rival by the end of Day 6 play.
His stack of 12,865,000 will give him a huge advantage as blinds are raised going into Day 7. Following Lenaghan in the top five of the final 57 poker players standing are: Ben Lamb (9,800,000), Matt Giannetti (7,490,000), Andrey Pateychuk (7,255,000), and Phil Collins (7,240,000) not the singer.
Chip leader Lenaghan is graduate of Louisiana State University, and lives in New Orleans, where he told Card Player he often plays at Harrahs. Inspired by Chris Moneymakers 2003 win, which brought the WSOP worldwide attention and revolutionized poker because Moneymaker was the first person to win the WSOP via qualifying at an online poker site, Lenaghan began playing after high school, moved on to playing online poker and began playing live poker tournaments when he turned 21.
Of his amazing day of play on Day 6, Lenaghan said, “I definitely wasn’t trying to flip for that many chips. It was just a spot where I thought he could have a lot of hands and try to make a play on me because of our history, so I just went with it. It worked out well, and I just got a little lucky, I guess.”
Day 6 was not good to everyone though. Former Survivor contestant and poker pro Jean-Robert Bellande hit the rail. Other noteworthy players who said goodbye to the felt were Allen Cunningham, Rupert Elder, Joseph Cheong, Amanda Musumeci, Peter Feldman, Ray Henson, and Eli Elezra.
Day 7 starts at 12 noon PST today, where the field will be whittled down to a mere 18 players. Stay tuned to Sports Interactions blog for updates.
