Cross-Party Letter Could Result in Legal Online Poker
A joint letter sent by representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties to the US attorney general could lead to legalisation of online poker. This is the view of I Nelson Rose, writing in a blog for Casino City Times. The letter was penned by Democratic senator Harry Reid and Republican counterpart Jon Kyl, questioning why the Department of Justice suddenly decided to shut down online poker sites after years of inactivity.According to Mr Rose, the letter itself is a great surprise, as Kyl is a conservative and Reid represents Nevada and the Las Vegas casinos. However, he suggests that congress may be forced into action by the move.”It is possible that congress might legalize intra-state and ever interstate online poker, if they can figure out a way to prevent state lotteries from being the operators,” Mr Rose notes.Online poker sites in the US were shut down by the state on April 15th – a day since dubbed “Black Friday”.
