WSOP winner protests over online poker crackdown

An event winner at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has used his victory to protest against the US governments crackdown on online poker.Arkadiy Tsinsis won $540,136 (CAN$534,005) in event 38 at the WSOP, and marked his victory by playing the Ukrainian national anthem.Tsinsis moved to the US at the age of 16, and says he meant no disrespect to the US by playing the anthem.Instead, the move was done in protest at the US governments shutdown of online poker sites.”With the state of online poker and the way it is right now, I think at these pokers events we should all boycott [the US anthem], not to show disrespect in any way, but to show the politicians … they should do something about this issue,” he said. This protest comes as a new Bill has been launched by Texan Congressman Joe Barton, which would authorise online poker in states where gaming is already legalised.Mr Barton says that online poker being illegal while the processing of payments isnt “makes no sense” and should be immediately rectified in law.
